Emerging Artist of the Year award 2016

Emerging Artist of the year award 2016

This is again that time of the year when we are buzzing with lots of activity around, emails coming in, phone is ringing with the queries What is the last date of uploading the art works? Whats the procedure .. is there any different application process to apply for this award program?

Anxiety and excitement  all around and needless to say; we enjoy the sincerity of the artists and their enthusiasm!

EAY 2016 is the 5th edition of a very successful tradition started by bestcollegeart.com and supported by #Glenfiddichindia since its inception stage. Though, Glenfiddich has been supporting art globally for a longer time and have been inviting artist for attending the residency from almost over 17 countries. We began our journey in year 2012 with Juhika Devi Bhanjdeo being our first winner who went and won lots of appreciation post her residency program for the work she did at Scotland and back here in India. The same continued with Yuvan Bothisathuvar, Chennai based artist in spite of huge language barrier but with his grit and sheer hard work, he learnt a great deal.
Chetnaa Verma was a third edition winner and forth edition (last year winner) was Krupa Makhija and is currently preparing for her solo show at one of the most contemporary art space 'Art District XIII, here at New Delhi.
This is indeed a phenomenal platform for any young artist to showcase their art work and get an opportunity to work along with several other international artists. An online initiative supporting young Indian artist has come a long way and its just a beginning.

Cheers!
Anu

Artist of the Month

Mukesh Salvi work statement Spending his early days in the streets of the beautiful city of Udaipur (Rajasthan), Mukesh Salvi has grown up wandering aimlessly on the bicycle and wondering deep about life and its little ways. He has spent hours in the playgrounds, playing games and often got lost in his own world of fantasy. However, the best time that he has spent was at home, with his family; quarrels with his siblings. He clearly remembers his days at school— classmates.

Mukesh salvi paintings are nostalgic, depicting the rural people he grew up among est. His source of inspiration has been the live of the people from his village. He has created dramatic canvases –Blue, black and white on a red background. His work, done in a fine figurative genre, stands out for its firm line work coupled with a sense of style, on a bold arresting background. His works is a telling statement of our times, typifying the modern concern for our surroundings. The artist's medium of expression is acrylic on canvas. His figurative work has a dream like quality about it. Bold colors coupled with pastel shades give it a textural feel. He strives to establish the harmony between people and their environment of Nature.

Drawing inspiration from the feeling of nostalgia, Mukesh Salvi has created his new series of canvases— 'My Feelings'. The series depict elementary feelings of human beings, which is a mixed bag of both happy and sad. Mukesh Salvi's choice of palette is something worth looking our for. In most of his works, bold strokes of vivid colors are evident. Patterns in a hazy background with humans resembling puppets, make an appearance in Mukesh Salvi's works. His artworks bring forth deep feelings, which are depicted using surreal figures in various postures. From the very beginning, lines have been the foundation of his paintings. Working with lines and other shapes, Mukesh Salvi has painted different moments. While painting, the artist makes sure that all the elements compliment each other and their amalgamation bring a pleasant essence to his works.

Artist of the Month

World is not as vast as the art is, which is inside us, there are lots of medium to express it. Meena took colours and brushes to express this beauty. Her feeling is signature of unexpressed personal sentiment of human being, capturing the colours of different phases and moments of life. She gives a practical shape to her inner creativity in all her works.

Though she was born at Imphal, Manipur- A small state in North-East India region, her carrier started in Delhi. Being in Delhi gave her the opportunity to see different cultures and life styles of all over the world. She has been always inspired by local and world cultural & arts events, her main focus has been on capturing the daily activities of Indian women mainly the tribal women of Manipur. Traditional touch can be seen in most of her works. She completed a research on the condition of women & child, the beauty of the Tribal women and the expression of their innocent faces and the events which reflects her personal experiences. She brings the things, objects which surrounds her to connect with women in her works. The bright colours like yellow, orange, cadmium red, bright blue etc can be seen much in her beautiful paintings. The distinctive heavily designed clothes make her painting more attractive.

Meena brings most of Indian festive celebration in her works like Holi though she concentrates on the existence of tribal community. She loves to work on their culture, day to days life, festival, elements which attract them and beautiful landscape of hilly regions.

Talented artist M Singh brings the abstract world to life through his colorful and strong brush strokes, creating a mood that oscillates between meditative and exuberant. He expresses himself through both abstract and figurative works. In his abstract work, he feels ideas flow through color on paper. Figurative paintings help him give shape to ideas and be innovative and expressive, while religious paintings are the source of positive energies in his life.
